Bollywood filmmaker Vikas Bahl has finished filming in the U.K. on “Bolo Bolo Bolo,” a coming-of-age musical drama set during the boom in Punjabi music across Britain in the early 1990s.
Jimmy Shergill, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Mona Singh and Alizeh lead the cast. Katha Studios is producing the film alongside Good Co, Fusion Flicks and Monk Films. It will open in cinemas in 2027.
The story takes place at a time when young British musicians were mixing Punjabi beats with modern, bass-heavy production. They built that sound in makeshift spaces, from garages to unlicensed radio broadcasts and shows far from the mainstream circuit. Alongside the music, the film deals with family ties, friendship, identity and the search for belonging, against the backdrop of Britain’s shifting culture at the time.

The soundtrack covers a wide range, drawing on the sounds that drove the British Punjabi scene during that decade.
Bahl said the film centers on music, identity and belonging, and takes place in a period when a generation was forging a cultural identity of its own.
“The Punjabi music scene in 1990s Britain was full of energy, rebellion and an incredible spirit of self-expression,” Bahl said. “It has been a wonderful experience bringing this world to life, and I look forward to audiences experiencing the film in 2027.”
